Artist Statement: Art has always been apart of my life as I used it as a way to express myself. I used art as a way to visualize how I was feeling at a given time. Most of those works were mainly small doodles that I ended up throwing away later. However, it helped me cope with emotions better and allowed me to continue doing art that didn’t express these types of emotions. Now, I mainly create portraits with different styles and media. With my current work, I'm exploring a variety of subjects and media in order to figure out what excites me the most. I mainly work in the media charcoal as I feel less restricted while using it compared to other media. As I became more accustomed to it, I also am able to learn new ways to use it as well. My art process mainly involves the inspiration Another media I work with is acrylic paint. I use this media when I want to create a piece with mainly color. Even though I use it quite often, I definitely still want to improve a lot with this media to be able to get smooth blending. My art process mainly involves the inspiration I get from other artists around me. I am able to take ideas from both me and other people to create something completely new. I begin a piece with a thumbnail sketch in my sketchbook where I arrange my composition and adjust my proportions. When I am happy with my idea, I translate it onto my canvas. Once I am satisfied with everything overall, I begin to start adding my base layer and continue working upon that until complete. When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment. In addition, it also helps me take my mind off of other obstacles going on in my life and helps me focus on the good things happening. As I continue to work on art, I want to try and challenge myself more in order to create something I’ve never done before. |
